My favorite part of planning my wedding was the day my mom and I sat on my front porch and put together my reception centerpieces. It was just the two of us and we had the best time talking about the upcoming wedding and the future Ryan and I would have together. I never thought a little DIY project could be so much fun and so memorable!

I had many friends tell me not to do anything myself and to hire someone to help with everything. I can understand the convenience of this and see how loads of stress could be relieved, but that just wasn’t my style. I wanted my hands in everything. I wanted to look back at my wedding and know that Ryan and I pieced it all together. The little DIY projects were time we spent together and with our family and friends who were so generous to help!

If you are a crafty bride and are about to embark on a lot of DIY projects like I did, you should make sure to enter one of your ideas into the 2010 DIY Wedding Challenge. Mondays are usually hard for me. I tend to oversleep and tend to wish it was Saturday again. I did fairly well this morning though. I think it had to do with the fact it was raining and I didn’t feel guilty about staying inside. It also helped when I saw there was blog love on The Elegant Owl. Let me tell you, waking up to your photos on someone else’s blog who loves your work is just the best thing ever!

Wednesday Wedding Ideas and Tips

I love stationary. One year for my birthday I remember a friend giving me a box full of all sorts of stationary… notepads, thank you cards, post its, invitations, postcards, etc. If it was made out of paper, more than likely it was in that box. I love a variety of designs too. Swirls, cherry bloosoms, polk dots, vintage wallpaper, etc. The wedding invitation selection was probably more fun to me than the cake selection. It was important to Ryan and I to involve our close friends in many of our wedding details. Our good friend help design and screen print our invitations. I’ve always been a huge fan of screen printing. Ryan and I have a collection of screen printed posters from back in the day when Ryan’s band promoted their shows. If screen printing is what you like, you may want to check out the very talented Two Trick Pony - they have some fabulous wedding invitations! Lots of fun colors and lots of cool designs. Below is an collage I made of a couple of their invitations. They also have a stationary store on Etsy.

I finally found some time this weekend to work on my blog and give it the TLC it needed! My old blog served me well, but it was in need for a makeover. However, don’t think that I’m stopping the TLC there – you’ll see improvements down the way… and no it’s not a tummy tuck!
