Ryan and I have spent a great deal of our time in Phnom Penh with children. They’ve been such a joy to be around. Below are some portraits of the children we’ve played and talked with.

Ryan and I took a Mekong Delta cruise as transportation to Phnom Penh. It wasn’t anything like our Halong Bay cruise, just a fun, beautiful, and easy way to get to Cambodia. While cruising the Mekong, our group made several stops to visit villages and learn about coconut candy making, puff rice, and silk weaving. It was a 2 day trip with an overnight stay on a floating hotel. The hotel wasn’t the prettiest, but it was lovely to be rocked asleep on the river. My favorite part of the trip was our visit to Chau Doc. This was a quick tour of the village that I managed to extend. Instead of keeping the brisk pace the group had set, Ryan and I leisurely walked behind them, stopping to talk with village folks and play with children. I smelled something baking just up the way on the street and I had to find out what it was. In front of me was this little old woman using two frying pans and a couple of lids over a fire to heat up something that smelled like pancakes. Through hand gestures we spoke about trying one. It was delicious. It had a semi crispy crust almost like a cookie but with a cake like center. I wish I had gestured for more. When Ryan and I finally did catch up with the rest of our group, I told our guide about our special treat and he told me it was coconut cake. I’ve been on the lookout for this coconut cake since we’ve arrived in Phnom Penh. I’ve seen it only once but was in a tuk tuk on a busy street. Unfortunately there was no way of pulling over to see if it was the same. I’m determined to find this cake again.

This past weekend was busy with several portrait sessions. I have to admit, I was a bit anxious going into the weekend knowing how many sessions I had ahead of me. Of course when Saturday came I knew it was all going to work out. Camila’s session not only worked out well, it was relaxing! It was nice to slow down a bit and spend quality time with Camila and her family. I look forward to welcoming baby Isabella to this world and to Darden.

I love this image of Ashton!

Ashton was running around in the garden while I was desperately trying to keep up. He paused for a second under a small tree with beautiful gold leaves. He didn’t give me much time before he was off running around in the garden again. That’s okay though.. one second and luck was all I needed to grab this shot. It’s my favorite from our session together.

Fall is here

I’m so excited to celebrate fall. Here are a few things that I partake in when it gets crisp outside… camping, eating lots of smores, apple picking, hayrides, drinking gallons of hot apple cider, hiking and many more things!

P.S: Ben and Celeste were not always this happy with my leaf sprinkling skills…Here is an image from about 5 mins before this one…

I had and accident with “sprinkling” the leaves and instead basically threw them. Opps! Good thing these two have patience with me and were down for trying again.

Madeline and Clarke, Charlottesville Baby Portraits…

A little while ago I met up with some friends of mine and did a portrait session of their little girl Madeline and their new baby boy Clarke. At various Darden events I’ll run into Madeline and Clarke. I’m not always fortunate to have my camera, but when I do, you better believe I’m trying to snag a couple photos of these kids. There was no trying to snag involved this time – I had them all to myself!

Children and baby sessions are always so much fun for me. I really enjoy the playfulness and interaction involved. Madeline kept me going the entire time. She’s a fast runner too! One second she would be here and the next she would be across Darden. I did a lot of laying down and getting up with her. Clarke seemed to be a bit more relaxed. I mean, what baby wouldn’t when bundled up in a comfy basket?
