Since the weather was so nice, we spent the majority of our time photographing at The Rotunda on The University of Virginia’s Campus. I love that area. My favorite part of The Rotunda are the columns that line the lawn. It makes for such a beautiful backdrop. Emily and Jay decided to do a First Look before their ceremony. First Looks are great and allow for more time with portraits. Plus, it gives the couple a private moment to really enjoy each other and think about the ceremony to come. I loved Jay’s expression as he turned to see Emily approaching him from the stairs. He just couldn’t stop starring at her and all the little details of her gown. It was very sweet to watch.

Emily and Jay exchanged vows at the University Chapel right there by the Rotunda. It was a beautiful evening wedding with close friends and family. Following the ceremony, guests headed to Farmington Country Club for an evening of toasts, dancing and celebration. Just before midnight Emily and Jay got on stage and helped count down to the New Year. It was a wonderful day full of love and joy!

Happy New Year!

The reception took place at The Marietta Country Club, which is a gorgeous place. I feel like many of the houses around the area could pass as the club house – they certainly are big enough! The wedding party arrived by trolley,  followed by an announcement of the newly married couple. This reception kept me on my toes. It was a large space and filled to the brim with so many guests. The dance floor never was empty either. Allison and her girlfriends were the first to break out the dancing but it wasn’t long after them that others started to join. My favorite dance was the mother son dance. You can tell by the image below just how tender of a moment this was. Below are a combination of images from both myself and Aaron Yung, who second shot with me on this event.

Casey and Josh are such an amazing couple. They light up a room when they walk in and Casey’s laugh is infectious. It has been fun working with them and they’ve always made me feel like part of the family.

Casey and Josh decided to get married at Ash Lawn Highland in Charlottesville, Virgina. Ash Lawn is nestled between two hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and was home to President James Monroe. The couple exchanged vows on the last weekend of October and boy was the foliage breath taking. Rolling hills of gold, red and green surrounded guests as they cuddled up in blankets and each others arms to watch Casey and Josh say “I do”.  It didn’t matter how cold it was outside – it warmed my heart to hear Casey and Josh announced as husband and wife.

Casey’s in-laws live on a beautiful farm up in the Virginia mountains. This made for a perfect bridal portrait setting. Talk about land with lots of options! I had great things to photograph: hay bales, vintage chairs, old bridges, weeping willows, oh yeah and a gorgeous bride, hehe. Not only was this location personal because it’s in the family, but it’s also where Josh asked Casey to be his wife.  I had Casey’s mom, Kelli, and mother-in-law to be, Kathy, by my side during the shoot. They were great at helping Casey look her best and shuttling us around the acres of land. There were a few times while shooting I’d hear sniffles behind me. I turned around and saw the two mothers holding hands and tearing up at the sight of the beautiful bride.

I had a great time wandering around Cambridge with Amanda and Gus. They wanted some  natural, easy going but fun  photos from their session so that’s just what we did. It literally was a walk in the park. We strolled here and there and I took photos along the way capturing our every move. Some of my favorite photos from the day were taken when we sat in the grass  and Gus started making goofy facial expressions. Amanda lost it. She tried to join in but couldn’t stop laughing. I love it when a couple can laugh together and at each other. It’s endearing.  Just after the laughs there was always this moment of tenderness. It was sweet to watch as they would cuddle in close.
